Silent Circle

Materials: Walnut, felt, wool, copper (back)
Dimensions: 51 × 60 × 6 cm
Techniques: Slow carving, frame making, felting, soldering (support)

An exploration of balance and material harmony, Silent Circle reflects the dialogue between solidity and softness.

The frame and central object are crafted from walnut, a wood known for its deep, rich tone and natural presence. Its character invites contrast, a lighter and softer counterpart that adds a sense of ease. This is found in a layer of light beige felt, delicately interwoven with strands of hand-felted wool in warm shades of brown. The subtle variations in colour create a marble-like texture, enhancing the walnut’s depth and grain.

Above this textured surface, a carved walnut form appears to float. Originally shaped as a spoon, it evolved through the slow rhythm of carving into a sequence of rounded, connected forms.

Together, these elements convey harmony and equilibrium. Silent Circle embodies the meeting of material, form, and tone, where contrast reveals balance and coherence.
