This bedside table was the first substantial piece I created during my training as a woodworker. I made it for my partner, and in the process it became clear that this marked the beginning of a new chapter.
Birch and zebrano wood meet in a deliberate play of contrast in colour and grain. The carved handle adds a tactile, sculptural presence.
As a sculptor, shaping form was familiar territory. What was new was the integration of art, craftsmanship, design and wood within a functional object. This piece became the foundation of that synthesis, which continues to define my work.
